M.E.E.R. is part of the OCEAN RIGHTS movement—join us!
Berlin, June 2026. For generations, humanity has treated the ocean as something separate from us: as a space from which we can extract resources, divide, control, and exploit. But the ocean is not an ecosystem separate from human life—it regulates our climate, produces a large portion of the oxygen we breathe, sustains biodiversity, supports the livelihoods of billions of people, and connects all life on Earth.
To reshape our relationship with the ocean, we must move beyond our familiar worldview and change our perspective on the ocean as well as the respect we show it. OCEAN RIGHTS can bring about exactly that! From a resource to a living relative; from passive heirs to the ocean’s generosity to active guardians of its future.
In this way, OCEAN RIGHTS aligns with M.E.E.R.’s Vision: We need a more holistic relationship with the world around us—moving away from the narrative of separation toward a new story of interconnectedness. No habitat symbolizes the interconnectedness of all life quite as much as the ocean.
M.E.E.R. supports the important work of OCEAN RIGHTS and encourages other NGOs to do the same. Organizations can sign the “Ocean Rights” declaration here: https://oceanrights.com/
