ECS Workshop 2023

We are absolutely thrilled to host one of our successful workshops in the lead-up to the European Cetacean Society Conference (ECS). The workshops will take place on April 16 and 17 in the coastal town of O’Grove in Galicia, Spain. The full-day workshop, “Communicating Marine Mammal Science to the General Public,” is co-organized by M.E.E.R. e.V. and will be held on April 17. This year, our content is dedicated to the conference theme: “Our Oceans, Our Future.”

Report on the Communication Workshop:

Our workshop this year was once again a great success, featuring 14 presentations from a wide variety of fields, including Citizen Science, Art & Music, Fundraising, Pedagogy for schoolchildren, and Nature conservation. There were 14 participants on-site, while others joined online. As the workshop was conducted as a hybrid event and recorded, numerous participants from overseas also had the opportunity to attend. All technical equipment was provided by the organizers, which even allowed for the streaming of live music. To ensure everything ran smoothly, we spent about six hours the previous day testing the technology and rehearsing various scenarios. The effort certainly paid off—everything worked perfectly in the end!

The main conference, which began the following day, was also a massive success. With nearly 600 participants from over 40 countries, it became the largest ECS conference ever held. Next year, the event returns to Italy. Catania, Sicily, was announced as the host city for 2024. We will do our best to organize another workshop there next year. For now, we are exhausted but incredibly happy about the lively exchange and the successful outcome of the workshop.

A short presentation about the workshop is available via the link below. A detailed report covering all contents will be published before the summer.
