Due to the high abundance of different whale and dolphin species, La Gomera is something like a “paradise” not only for whale watchers but also for whale researchers. M.E.E.R. e.V. has accomplished true pioneer work in the area. The research on cetaceans off La Gomera started in 1995 with a diploma-thesis by Fabian Ritter (now president of the organization). What started as an end-of-study-work became an internationally recognized research project to the present day. Being the first institution to conduct in-depth studies about whales and dolphins off La Gomera, M.E.E.R. e.V. continues to broaden the lineup of topics.
